Located in Toronto’s financial district at the north-east corner of Yonge and Wellington Streets, the British Colonial Building was designed by master architect Henry Langley in 1871 for the Bank of British North America. The building’s architecture was inspired by the grand Parisian manors found on the banks of the Champs de Elysees. During the 20th century, this landmark building with its mosaic floors and arching interior columns became home to a branch of the Bank of Montreal and later the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. In 1982 the building was completely restored. |
